Grey skies sputtered and dropped only a few sprinkles as nearly 35 electric vehicles were displayed in Newport for the public Drive Electric Earth Day, co-sponsored by Central Lincoln, Atonement Lutheran Church, Plug in America, and Normal Now/Electrify America, a DC fast-charging company.

Some people came to check out EVs they’d only read about, others to compare and contrast models from 12 different brands, including Arcimoto (made in Eugene), Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Polestar, Tesla, and VW.

Several plug-in hybrids, known as PHEVs, were there from brands including Ford, Jeep, Honda, and Toyota.
