‘Tis the Season for Budget Billing

Spring is here and so is the window to sign up for Budget Billing – a budget friendly way to pay the same amount for electricity every month. The Budget Billing signup window will be open until June 30.

How does Budget Billing work? When signing up, customers receive the amount they will be billed each month for a year, based on the past year’s total electricity use. Our customers’ bills tend to be lower in the spring and summer, and higher in the winter. With Budget Billing, customers pay a bit more than the cost of the power they use in warmer months, building up funds to cover fall and winter’s higher bills.

Budget Billing accounts are reviewed in April each year, and if a customer has a credit balance, those funds will be deducted from their new monthly payment amount. If a customer has a balance owing, that amount is spread out over the following year with a small increase to a customer’s monthly payment amount.

Signing up for Budget Billing can be as simple as calling us, Mondays through Thursdays, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 877-265-3211, and pressing “3.”

Who can sign up for Budget Billing? Residential customers who have lived at the same address for a year or more, and have a good payment history. Budget Billing customers must start with a $0 balance when signing up.

Some customers really like combining Budget Billing with AutoPay, authorizing their Budget Billing amount to be paid automatically every month using a credit card, debit card, or from their bank account. For more ‘less fuss, no muss,’ they sign up for Paperless and instead of getting a paper bill, they receive their bills by email.

But the Oregon Coast has industries that are seasonal – tourism and commercial fishing are just two examples – and we have customers whose income peaks some months, and drops in others. Some find Prepaid, our ‘pay as you go’ plan works really well for them. Prepaid customers pay for their electricity like they pay for gasoline – just before they use it.

When their power account gets low on funds, Prepaid customers receive alerts by text and/or email, and they can put as little as $5 on their account to keep it current. With our app, Prepaid customers can see how quickly they are using their power and at what times of day. Some tell us Prepaid helps them save electricity and money as a result.
