Please Don’t Hang Anything on Utility Poles

Thinking about promoting your yard sale by posting a sign on a utility pole?

Please don’t.

Staples, nails and tacks used to hang signs—as well as the signs themselves—can obstruct climbing equipment, causing a line worker to slip or fall. They can also tear the clothing that protects the workers from electrical shock (even the tiniest pinhole in a glove is enough to cause an injury).

Hanging anything on a utility pole is against the law (ORS 368.942).

We know our poles are conveniently located for posting signs, but when you do that, you’re putting our line workers at risk (and breaking the law).

So, again, please don’t.
