Central Lincoln has recently had many reports from customers about calls they have received telling them their Central Lincoln account is past due, and they will be disconnected that day if they don’t supply a credit card or debit card number immediately. Or, the scammers tell the customers to go buy a prepaid VISA gift card to pay the bill. These callers often are very pushy, demanding, and/or rude.
Here are Central Lincoln’s practices about past due bills:
- Because of phone scamming, we NEVER call customers about bills that are past due. Central Lincoln only communicates about past due bills via U.S. Mail.
- We DO NOT do disconnections after 5 p.m. or on weekends due to non-payment
- Overdue bill disconnections are only done during weekdays during business hours in order to give customers the ability to contact us or come in to make a payment
- When a customer’s bill is 21 days late, we mail an overdue notice. Five business days later, we send a disconnect notice, and seven days after that, a customer with an overdue is subject to disconnection.
If someone calls you about a past due bill and claims to be from Central Lincoln, please hang up! You are being scammed.
